Several videos recently published on social networks show the barbarism of Russian mercenaries in Ukraine. On this occasion, a man shows live the beheading of a Ukrainian soldier.
The most recent video reported by the Russian media seems to have been recorded months ago. It shows a Russian fighter severing the head of a Ukrainian soldier with a knife as he yells about the horrifying execution.
According to CNN, one of Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenkski’s top advisers, Andriy Yermak, tweeted in reaction to the images: “There will be accountability for everything.”
This is not the first time this has happened, severed heads have already appeared in Bakhmut, the scene of the longest and bloodiest battle since the start of the Russian invasion, an almost completely destroyed city where Ukrainian forces resist assaults by the Wagner paramilitary group. It is the first time, however, that the beheading of a living person has been filmed, also boasting of it.
It is worth remembering other atrocities committed by the Wagner group. Last summer, for example, videos came to light showing Russian soldiers castrating a Ukrainian soldier. On that occasion up to three different recordings showed a soldier on the ground with his hands tied behind his back. First he was mutilated and then killed.
More recent is the brutal execution of a soldier who shouted “Glory to Ukraine.” In that video, released last March, an unarmed soldier was seen, without putting up any resistance, shot by several bursts of shots from the Russian military. “One more proof that this is a genocidal war,” then condemned the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmitro Kuleba.
On Monday, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW, for its acronym in English) denounced that the Wagner group “continued to commit war crimes by beheading Ukrainian soldiers in Bakhmut,” referring to a photo shared on pro-Russian social media. showing a body without a head.
