A 78-year-old woman, already twice convicted of bank robbery, robbed another bank in Missouri and handed the teller a written note that read “I didn’t mean to scare you,” authorities say.

Bonnie Gooch was being held on $25,000 bail following the robbery that occurred Wednesday in Pleasant Hill, the Kansas City Star reported. There is no attorney in online records for her.

Gooch had previously been convicted of robbing a California bank in 1977 and one in a Kansas City suburb in 2020. Her probation in the wake of the second robbery ended in November 2021.

Court documents pertaining to the most recent case indicate that she delivered a written message demanding “13,000 small bills” and the words “Thank you, sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” Video of her also shows her pounding on the counter, demanding that the cashier hurry up, prosecutors said.

The woman’s breath smelled of alcohol when police stopped her less than 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) away, in a car with cash on the floor, they added.

“It’s very sad,” Pleasant Hill Police Chief Tommy Wright said, adding that the woman had no diagnosed illness.
