The provincial PSdeG of Pontevedra has today again demanded the “immediate resignation” of the Cangas councilor José Luis Gestido “due to the intolerable aggression” against its councilor Iria Malvido, a fact that the popular ranks deny had occurred.
“The violent must be expelled from politics and if Gestido does not resign, it is Rueda’s turn to throw him out,” says the provincial secretary, David Regades, in reference to some events that occurred in the plenary session on Thursday and which he describes as a “physical and “verbal” by the popular councilor towards the socialist councilor.
“Getting up from your seat, going to that of a political opponent and shaking hands with a councilor to violently snatch a mobile phone from her is a gesture that cannot be tolerated,” says Regades, who compares it to that of the Vox councilor, Ortega Smith, in Madrid.
The PP of Cangas has spoken out today about what happened and has done so in defense of the actions of its councilor. The party assures that “at no time was it an attack against the deputy mayor” but that, “as can be seen in the multiple videos available,” Gestido tried to cover the lens of his cell phone because “he was recording it.” The ‘popular’ consider this fact “absolutely inappropriate”: “It was never customary in our municipality for councilors to record each other during the celebration of a plenary session.”
