Argentine singer León Gieco called for a “peaceful solution” to the conflict between Israel and the Islamist organization Hamas and implored “the return of all the hostages to their places of origin,” among whom is his nephew, Ron Scherman.
Gieco carried out this request in a video published on his official profile on the social network Instagram and also on best known, which has been performed by artists such as Mercedes Sosa, Joan Manuel Serrat or Ana Belén and Víctor Manuel.
“As a musician always committed to peace and today overwhelmed by the extreme situation in the Middle East, by the blindness and harshness of the politicians and by these acts of terror where the victims are always the people, both Palestinians and Israelis, I ask for a peaceful exit from this ancient and cruel conflict,” said the artist.
“For everything, everything. For war, nothing,” concluded the committed singer, who in recent decades has participated in concerts in tribute to the victims of the Augusto Pinochet dictatorship in Chile (1973-1990) or the last military dictatorship. Argentina (1976-1983).
Regarding the particular case of his nephew, kidnapped in Israel, Gieco asked for the young man’s release “for the love that unites us as a family and for the universal love that should never die.”
After his brief message, Gieco continued singing “I only ask God”, accompanied only by his acoustic guitar and a harmonica.
In the last few hours, several personalities from the world of Argentine culture, including actor Ricardo Darín, have called for the release of the Hamas hostages.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad claim to have about 130 hostages, and the Israeli Government has confirmed the identity of 97 of them, notifying their families, as revealed this Thursday by the spokesman for the Israeli Army, Daniel Hagari.
