Halle (dpa/sa) – On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the State Administration Office in Halle is showing an exhibition of historical posters that deal with the day of action in general and women’s suffrage in particular. After the opening of “With boldness and confidence” on Tuesday, the show will be presented until April 14th. According to the information, 27 panels with historical posters were developed, which depict the period from 1906 to the present. Accompanying texts that describe the illustrations and classify the creative background complete the exhibition, it said.

International Women’s Day on March 8th was first celebrated in 1911. The day is intended to celebrate the achievements of the women’s rights movement and draw attention to the unequal treatment of men and women that still exists. The idea came from the politician Clara Zetkin (1857-1933), who is said to have proposed the introduction of such a day at a conference in Copenhagen in August 1910.
