Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – A good 4.7 million tourists and business travelers visited Frankfurt, Hesse’s largest city, in 2022. More than 8.6 million overnight stays were recorded, as the city announced on Friday. Around 1.4 million guests and a good 2.1 million overnight stays were still missing to continue the record year 2019 before the corona pandemic. Compared to 2019, the absence of many guests from overseas was still noticeable in 2022, especially from China. Until the beginning of the pandemic, the number of guests and overnight stays in Frankfurt had increased from year to year.
The figures for 2022 showed that the tourism industry is now slowly improving. From the second third of the year, the numbers recovered significantly, said Stephanie Wüst (FDP), head of the economic department. “For 2023 we expect a renewed increase in the number of guests and overnight stays and a further approximation of past record results.” The aim must be for more international guests to visit Frankfurt again and for business travelers to stay longer in the city.
Due to the corona pandemic, strict restrictions and rules for tourism applied until 2022, which led to a sharp drop in numbers. Compared to 2021, the number of overnight stays in Frankfurt doubled in 2022.
