Prerow (dpa / mv) – The salvage of the stranded working ship on the beach of the Baltic Sea resort of Prerow (Vorpommern-Rügen district) is difficult. On Friday morning, a rope broke during an attempt to tow the vehicle. According to a dpa photographer, the 95 meter long barge could not be moved into deeper water even after a new rope was attached. Dredgers had previously uncovered the unpowered ship. Many tourists were there to photograph the towing operation.

The stranded pontoon does not pose a threat to the environment, Environment Minister Till Backhaus (SPD) announced on Thursday. According to the water police, the cargo ship was loosened from its anchorage in the storm on Saturday and was driven onto the beach of the resort. An island port is currently being built near Prerow, for which the barge had transported building materials from Scandinavia to Norddarß.
