Halberstadt (dpa/sa) – A pensioner was seriously injured in an explosion in a single-family house in Halberstadt (Harz district). After the detonation on Friday morning, the resident of the house was rescued by rescue workers from the “rubble of the residential building” and taken to a clinic, a police spokesman said.

According to initial police findings, the explosion could have been triggered when a propane gas heater was operated. “Due to the force of the detonation, parts of the building such as windows were thrown out up to a distance of 50 meters,” said a police spokesman. THW employees should check the statics of the affected single-family house. The police are also investigating the cause of the incident.
