Schweinfurt (dpa / lby) – According to the public prosecutor’s office, a woman accused of killing her baby should be sentenced to manslaughter and not to murder. The prosecutor said on Thursday before the Schweinfurt district court that murder characteristics such as malice were not met because the child’s father, who could have protected the girl, was several hundred meters away when he did it. The indictment read on Monday was murder.
The prosecutor is asking for a nine-year prison sentence. The woman’s defense attorney joined the call for a manslaughter conviction but pleaded for eight years in prison.
The defendant may have wanted to punish her husband, from whom she did not feel that he had sufficient support, the prosecutor said. “It is possible that the defendant saw a problem in the child that she could solve differently than her other problems.” In any case, the woman’s ability to see and control was not significantly restricted when she killed her girl last August.
According to a psychiatrist, the Somali woman was guilty of the crime. There is only evidence of an emotionally unstable personality disorder of the borderline type.
The accused is accused of stabbing her three-month-old daughter eight times with a kitchen knife. The woman had confessed to the crime in a refugee accommodation in Geldersheim near Schweinfurt at the start of the trial.
The Grand Criminal Court intends to pronounce the verdict this Thursday.
