Dresden (dpa / sn) – With a funding project, the Free State of Saxony wants to support single parents more in the future. “Many single parents need support, for example in the event of illness, financial difficulties, questions about education or problems with the former partner,” said Saxony’s Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping (SPD) on Wednesday in Dresden.

With the “ALISA” project, the Ministry wants to help single parents to better reconcile family life and work. Parents can find basic information about their living situation and contact persons as well as local offers of help on a website. In addition, the range of information is supplemented by digital discussion formats, events, trade fairs and recreational offers.

The project sponsors include the women’s promotion agency, the association for self-determined action strategies and initiatives for single parents (SHIA), the state association of Saxony and the family association for young and old in Chemnitz. All providers are to receive 70,000 euros in funding for setting up a contact and contact point.

In Saxony, according to the Ministry of Social Affairs, around a quarter of parents with at least one child under the age of 18 are single parents. Women make up the vast majority at 85 percent.
