The police reacted to the news that a weapon-like object was observed at a school in Traunstein with a large deployment. Relief finally in the afternoon: nothing happened.
Traunstein (dpa / lby) – A large-scale police operation at the vocational school in Traunstein, Upper Bavaria, after an alarm about suspected weapon-like objects ended without a dangerous situation. “The threat situation has not come true,” said police spokesman Stefan Sunday on Tuesday. “No one was threatened, endangered or even injured.” However, two soft air weapons were found and secured, as the police announced in the afternoon. Motive and more detailed background are not known, the investigation is ongoing.
A teacher reported Tuesday morning around 10:30 a.m. that young people – presumably students – had handled one or more weapon-like objects. The alleged student(s) then went to school.
The police then rushed out in large numbers. According to the standard, a special task force (SEK) was also alerted. It was said that this was normal for a mission of this magnitude.
Some students had to stay in the classroom with their teachers for hours. As a precaution, they locked themselves in the classrooms in accordance with the operational plans applicable to such cases, Sunday reported.
Pupils were able to leave the school building during the operation. Some of them came out of the building with their hands raised as a precautionary measure by order of the police. “We didn’t know if there was anyone among them who was up to something,” said the spokesman. “We also have to take care of our own safety.”
By the afternoon, all the students had left the school building, some of them had also been picked up by their parents, Sunday said. “They were glad that they could go home now.” In some cases, those affected had received psychological care.
The detective is investigating, said Sunday. “We are very happy that it ended so well.”
The district office in Traunstein had temporarily set up a citizen phone. Parents and relatives of students could get information there.
According to the police, after the large-scale operation, including with a helicopter, it will also be checked whether the costs will be charged.
