There is already a date for the swearing-in of the Constitution of the Princess of Asturias. It will be next October 31 in a plenary session of Congress and Saturday. The date coincides with the day the Princess turns 18, so it complies with the plans provided for in the Constitution, in article 61.2, which establishes that the heir must swear the Magna Carta “upon reaching the age of majority.”

Precisely that paragraph prompted the President of the Government on several occasions to ensure that the date could be indicative, and not the birthday itself. Doña Leonor will finally be sworn in on the same day as her anniversary. This was decided by Zarzuela and Congress in a meeting held last Thursday at the initiative of the president of the Lower House, Francina Armengol. Pedro Rollán, president of the Senate, the Government and the House, also participated in the meeting, according to Zarzuela sources.

After the event in Congress, it is planned that Princess Leonor will receive the Collar of the Order of Charles III in the Royal Palace in the presence of the powers of the State and that a lunch will then be held with a representation of the highest authorities of the State.

After the swearing-in, and to celebrate such an important day, the Kings will have a private party at the Palacio del Pardo to which they will invite all their relatives.

Of course, among the guests will be King Juan Carlos, whom Don Felipe and Doña Letizia are waiting for at the private celebration in El Pardo. It will be the second time that the father of the head of state has set foot in Madrid since he left Spain on August 4, 2020. Since then, the Emeritus returned to the capital for only one day, to maintain “ample time for conversation” with Felipe VI, in which the King explained the damage caused to the Crown by his actions.

The father of Felipe VI will not participate, however, in the institutional events, reserved for the Kings and the Princess.

Doña Leonor will swear to comply with and enforce the Constitution with the same formula that her father pronounced. “I swear to faithfully carry out my duties, to keep and ensure that the Constitution and the laws are kept, to respect the rights of citizens and the autonomous communities and to maintain fidelity to the King.” The Heiress will also receive her second decoration, since she already has the Golden Fleece. The order of Charles III distinguishes people from society who have stood out for their actions for the benefit of Spain and the Crown.
