Schwerin (dpa/mv) – In a fire in a reception center for asylum seekers in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Schwerin, seven people were injured by smoke gas on Saturday morning. Three of them had to be taken to the hospital, the police said on Saturday. A 34-year-old from Cameroon is said to have set the fire in his room in the Stern Buchholz district. The door was locked from the inside. Several sources of fire were later discovered in the room. The man was there too.

According to the information, the 13 residents of the affected house were brought to safety by employees of the facility before the fire brigade and police arrived. The house is currently uninhabitable, people would be housed in other buildings on the site. The police are investigating the 34-year-old for serious arson. He had been arrested.
