Hof/Bad Staffelstein (dpa/lby) – Fraudsters stole around 100,000 euros from a 91-year-old woman in Upper Franconia. On Wednesday, the perpetrators claimed on the phone that a relative was in prison because of a serious traffic accident, the police said on Friday. They asked the elderly woman from Hof ??to pay a bail. Later that afternoon, a man and a woman posing as police officers showed up at her front door. The 91-year-old handed them gold and cash of around 100,000 euros.
With the same scam, scammers also tried to get more than 10,000 euros from a 90-year-old on Wednesday. They gave the man from Bad Staffelstein (district of Lichtenfels) an address in Hof to hand over the money. There he should hand over the sum to an alleged public prosecutor. Instead, the senior drove to the police station in Hof, where the attempted fraud was discovered.
