Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – The chairman of the committee of inquiry into the murder of the Kassel district president Walter Lübcke has appealed to the state parliamentary groups to pull together for the final report. “This topic is not suitable for a political mud fight,” warned Christian Heinz (CDU) on Friday in Wiesbaden. Democrats from different factions have more in common than they divide. “Everyone involved should take that into account when dealing with the horrific murder of a former colleague.”

The parliamentary groups should agree on the largest possible common part, explained the chairman. This concerns, for example, the joint presentation of the procedure and the facts. The political assessment will then certainly be different. His goal is for the report to be debated in the Hessian state parliament before the summer break and ideally in June. On April 25, the committee will discuss the final report for the first time.

The Kassel district president Lübcke was shot by the right-wing extremist Stephan Ernst on the terrace of his house in 2019. The investigative committee is to work up the role of the Hessian security authorities in the murder case.
