Gießen (dpa/lhe) – Last year, the illegal work investigators at the main customs office in Gießen uncovered fraud with a total damage of almost 34 million euros. More than 2000 companies were checked, including in the construction, hairdressing, restaurant and transport industries in north, east and central Hesse, as the authority announced on Friday.

Almost 4,370 criminal proceedings were completed and almost 1,560 administrative offense proceedings initiated, which were slightly more than in the previous year. As a result, fines and penalties totaling over 1.3 million euros as well as imprisonment were imposed.
