Erfurt (dpa/th) – The number of people living in Erfurt increased by 1,685 in 2022 compared to the previous year. A total of 215,520 residents had their main residence in the Thuringian state capital, of which 104,905 were male and 110,615 female, according to the population register of the Erfurt city administration on Wednesday. Accordingly, in the first half of 2022, refugees from Ukraine in particular were responsible for population growth. In the second half of the year, the number of residents rose again slightly due to the influx of new students.
According to the city administration, 115,383 people lived in the urban parts of Erfurt, 55,773 in the large housing estates and 44,364 in the rural districts. Compared to 2021, the urban parts increased by 845, the large housing estates by 554 and the village districts by 286 inhabitants.
