Semlow (dpa / mv) – Thieves have broken into and plundered a company petrol station in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen. As a police spokesman said on Monday, the incident in Semlow near Ribnitz-Damgarten happened between December 21 and New Year’s. After initial investigations, the perpetrators broke through the company’s fence, drove a vehicle to the gas station, tapped more than 1,000 liters of diesel and disappeared. The police are investigating a particularly serious case of theft.
The damage, including damage to the gas station, was estimated at several thousand euros. The operators only noticed the incident on January 1 and reported it.
In connection with the sharp rise in fuel prices, fuel theft from vehicles in the Northeast has increased significantly in 2022, according to the State Criminal Police Office MV. According to the information, 450 fuel thefts were registered by mid-December, compared to 190 cases in 2021.
