Duisburg (dpa / lnw) – In the mysterious Duisburg case of a burned-out car with a corpse at the wheel, the murder commission discovered traces of blood. These were found in the second accident car, which had collided with a tree a few meters away from the burned-out wreck, the police and prosecutors confirmed on Friday. The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported on the traces.

Both cars belong to the same owner, a 40-year-old man from Duisburg. A spokesman for the Duisburg public prosecutor’s office told the dpa that the 40-year-old was related to an association that had premises near the events at the Duisburg water ski facility. That could explain why two of the owner’s cars were at the scene. His place of residence is not nearby.

The homicide squad is now hoping to get the much-needed result of the DNA analysis in the first half of next week. It should clarify whether the body is the owner and whether the traces of blood in the second car come from him. So far, the police have ruled out neither a crime, nor an accident, nor a suicide.

Near the Duisburg water ski facility, a walker came across the puzzling scenario at Christmas: a few meters from the burnt-out wreck with the corpse was a second car that had obviously collided head-on with a tree and the light was still on. The 40-year-old owner, who lives alone, has not yet been reached by the homicide squad.

A traffic accident team evaluates the conspicuous tire marks that were found on site. In addition, an appraiser should examine the cars. “It is a complex trace image,” said the prosecutor.

The event must have happened on the night of Christmas Day. The police are still looking for witnesses who saw the vehicle fire or made other suspicious observations, such as conspicuous cars. There is no residential development at the site. The area, which is very lonely at night, is also a dead end.
