Nuremberg (dpa/lby) – According to the city of Nuremberg, around two million people from all over the world will visit the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt, one of the largest and most well-known Christmas markets in the world, this year. The market, famous for its selection of gingerbread and the popular “Zwetschgenmännla”, which ends on Saturday, had to pause for two years in a row due to the pandemic. “Despite the very mixed weather, the Christkindlesmarkt – after a two-year forced break due to corona – was an absolute magnet for guests,” said Nuremberg’s economics officer Michael Fraas.

The Christkindlesmarkt is an important economic factor for the city of Nuremberg. The hotel industry has benefited particularly this year, with bed occupancy at 85 percent over the four weekends in Advent. Overall, the Nuremberg Congress and Tourism Center assumes 300,000 overnight stays in December.
