Erfurt (dpa/th) – The number of flu infections has risen sharply in Thuringia. In the past week, 4078 influenza diseases were recorded, as the Thuringian Ministry of Health announced on Friday, citing figures from the Robert Koch Institute. According to the information, this is the highest weekly value in five years. In the entire flu season 2022/2023, 6914 cases have been confirmed by laboratory diagnostics in Thuringia.
The data also shows that influenza infections are rising much earlier in the current season than in the years before the corona pandemic. In the two flu seasons 2017/2018 and 2018/2019, the number of cases increased significantly in January, February and March.
According to the data, influenza diseases were most common in schools and kindergartens this year. Of all age groups, five to nine year olds were most affected, followed by the one to four year old group.
