Zeulenroda-Triebes (dpa/th) – The best young butcher in Germany comes this year from the Bratwurstland Thuringia. Joe Trommer from Greiz emerged from the performance competition of the German trades as the best trainee among the sausage makers, as can be seen from an overview of the Central Association of German Trades. On Monday, the 19-year-old was honored in his training company, the Bio-Seehotel in Zeulenroda. Trommer started a three-year apprenticeship there in 2019 and is now working there as a journeyman. The result of the journeyman’s examination was evaluated in the performance comparison.
Trommer, whose interest in the butcher’s profession was aroused by his grandfather’s butchering at home, is particularly attracted to the creative side of his work. “We can develop our own spice recipes and thus create new things, respond to individual wishes and needs,” he told the German Press Agency. The hotel has its own butcher’s shop, which gets the meat from an organic supplier in Schmalkalden. The ham and salami specialties prepared from it are particularly popular with guests.
In times when per capita meat consumption in Germany is declining slightly, Trommer still likes to eat meat himself. His favorite piece is the Rostbratwurst, called Roster in East Thuringia. “That’s obvious in Thuringia,” he said.
