In the future, artificial intelligence will help determine people’s everyday lives. Both in private life and in the world of work. The DGB demands a precise analysis of the consequences.
Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The German trade union federation is demanding that the green-black state government create a state agency for artificial intelligence. DGB country chief Kai Burmeister told the German Press Agency in Stuttgart: “The agency must advise companies and institutions. The aim must be to develop guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence. These must be in line with the interests of employees.”
Burmeister said that the use of AI will become increasingly important in companies over the next few years. “It is important to design the applications in such a way that the employees benefit from them. The transparent employee or the transparent citizen must not emerge.” The increasingly digitized world of work must develop into a world for good work.
Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) must do even more for a human-oriented use of AI. “The first step should be a people-oriented technology assessment with the participation of civil society.” However, one should not stop at a technology-centric approach. “Where can AI make our lives better and where are the limits? We need to discuss these questions broadly.” After all, it is about health protection, co-determination and the decision-making sovereignty of those who come into contact with AI.
The DGB country chief warned that the use of the new possibilities should not let human responsibility recede into the background. “It would be a nightmare scenario if, in the future, AI systems determined whether someone would be fired.” According to Grün-Schwarz, Baden-Württemberg should become a leading location in Europe when it comes to artificial intelligence (AI).
