Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – Last year, 735 children and young people from Hesse came to the hospital with alcohol poisoning. That is around seven percent more than in 2020, as reported by DAK-Gesundheit in Frankfurt after evaluating current data from the State Statistical Office.

Accordingly, an increase in admissions can be observed, especially among girls. In the 10 to 14 age group, around twelve percent more girls came to a clinic because of alcohol abuse (boys minus 6 percent). In the 15 to 19 age group it was around 13 percent more (boys up 4 percent).

Overall, however, the number of affected 10 to 19-year-olds remained at a lower level than in 2019 in the second year of the pandemic: in the pre-Corona year, 1,249 children and adolescents with alcohol poisoning were treated in hospitals.

Patients between the ages of 10 and 20 who live in Hesse and were admitted as inpatients were registered in the statistics.
