The Civil Guard is investigating the cause of death of two people in the Gorgol ravine, located in the Huesca town of Tramacastilla de Tena. The event took place in full alert for the DANA (isolated depression at high levels), which has left rainfall of up to 100 liters per square meter at the head of this Pyrenean valley.

The notice has been received at 2:00 p.m. and members of the Mountain Civil Guard have gone to the place to proceed with the evacuation of the two bodies.

They are two men from Zaragoza, aged 31 and 34, who were canyoning with a group of eight people. It was the colleagues who alerted 112 of the problems that the two victims had in the last pool and who tried to revive them.

Sources from the Civil Guard, cited by Heraldo.es, have indicated that the deaths have occurred “possibly by drowning”, although the causes are being investigated.

The State Meteorological Agency had warned this Saturday of heavy rainfall, which in a few minutes could lead to a sudden flood.

Jesús Gericó, mayor of Sallent de Gállego, the municipality to which Tramacastilla de Tena belongs, has lamented the “fatality” and the “tragedy”. He has pointed out that, “in weather conditions like today’s, it is not the best thing to do to get into a ravine.” He has added that the Gorgol drain acts as a drain for the port in such a way that it channels the water that falls on the highest levels.

The isolated depression at high levels (DANA) that affects the Iberian Peninsula this weekend hits the Valencian Community with force, with persistent rainfall and very strong intensity in areas of the province of Castellón and the north coast of Valencia.

The DANA has left in the Valencian Community, where the pre-emergency due to heavy rains remains activated throughout the province of Castellón and along the entire coast of the province of Valencia, 128.6 liters accumulated in the Castellón municipality of Vilafamés (the highest record in the day), up to five rescues (all of them in the province of Castellón) of people trapped by water when they were moving in vehicles, fallen trees, revision of facades and various drainage.

As reported by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the highest records of accumulated precipitation until the early hours of this afternoon are, in addition to the 128.6 liters of Vilafamés: Borriol, 92.6 liters; the Serratella, 80.2; Vall d’Alba: 59.6 and Onda, 46.8, all in Castellón

Aemet has explained that the downpours have been “widespread and intense” but, in general, of short duration, except in areas of the province of Castellón where they are being “persistent and of very strong intensity.”

Around 3:00 p.m., the entire province of Castellón was “practically under the rain”, with storms scattered throughout the province, and a storm core was also maintained in the west of the Plana de Utiel-Requena with a trajectory from south to north, while to the south of Alicante clearings were already opening up.

The Aemet has also issued an orange notice in Navarra, La Rioja, Madrid, the Basque Country, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León and the Balearic Islands, in addition to the city of Melilla, due to the “significant risk” of heavy rains and storms.

Precisely, the Municipal Police of Pamplona has closed the swimming club’s footbridges due to possible overflows of the Arga river due to the continuous rains that have been occurring in Navarra in recent hours. From the State Meteorological Agency they have pointed out that since this Friday, in Pamplona, ??more than 130 liters of rain have already been exceeded.

Due to the uncertainty of the situation, it is not yet possible to identify the affected areas more accurately, but the Aemet advances that the rains will foreseeably be less intense in Andalusia and in the extreme west of the peninsula.

Palma airport records widespread delays due to weather conditions by DANA.

According to an Aena spokesperson, the delays are due to bad weather at the airports of origin, given that in Son Sant Joan the atmospheric situation does not affect landings and takeoffs.

The public company that manages Spanish airports has avoided citing the number of delayed operations and has indicated that the vast majority of delays last around an hour.

On Sunday, abundant rainfall is expected to arrive with storms on the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, especially strong in the center, southeastern third, Levante and northern plateau, as well as strong winds in the Levante and the northeast.

The Madrid 112 Security and Emergency Agency has recommended that drivers who plan to return to Madrid this Sunday advance their trip to avoid driving on the roads during the afternoon, when the most virulent storms are expected.

The Aemet has activated the orange alert from 12:00 to 00:00 throughout the region, except in the mountains, although very strong gusts are also expected in high areas. However, the yellow warning is maintained throughout the early morning until 12:00 on Sunday, when the storms are expected to be stronger.

As a general trend, the rainfall will move throughout the day from southeast to northwest, with a probability of becoming strong and/or locally persistent in the southeast third and central peninsula, as well as other areas of the Levant, although there could also be in the northern plateau and nearby areas.

In the Canary Islands, cloudy intervals are expected with probable light rains in the north of the islands, which will tend to move in the form of occasional showers to the interior of those of greater relief.

Haze is not ruled out in the eastern half of the peninsula, Melilla and the Balearic Islands, so the rainfall could be accompanied by mud, while in mountainous areas of the peninsula morning fog banks are likely, which may be persistent in some points.

The minimum temperatures will drop in areas of eastern Andalusia, Melilla and the Canary Islands, and will rise in the far northwest and the Balearic Islands; meanwhile, the maximums will rise in the Levant and in the northern and northeastern thirds of the peninsula, an increase that will even be notable in the interior extreme north, although they will decrease in the rest.

An intense wind from the east and northeast is expected in the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, which will become strong in the Levant and on the coasts of the peninsular northwest, and with very strong gusts in the Balearic Islands and in large areas of the northeast half of the peninsula, especially in interiors of the eastern third. In the southwest quadrant, however, the wind will generally be light and from the south.
