Barleben (dpa/sa) – The cooking box supplier Hellofresh has started production in its new plant in Barleben near Magdeburg. The first customer box was packed on Monday, said plant manager Michaela Smith on Tuesday. Customers throughout Germany and Austria are to be supplied from Barleben. It is Hellofresh’s second German production site after Verden an der Aller. The company did not provide any information on the amount of the investment or the production capacity.

The company, founded in 2011, is listed in the MDax and, according to its own statements, is active in 19 countries. Spain was recently added. Together with Barleben there are now 42 production sites worldwide.

160 people are currently employed in Barleben, and there should be around 500 in the coming year. The start of automated production is planned for spring 2023. The capacity is sufficient for up to 2000 employees. According to the information, Hellofresh has a good 31,000 square meters of hall space available at the new location near the A2 and 14 motorways, plus around 3,900 square meters of offices and social areas.

The business idea: Customers order from a changing selection of menus according to their taste and the number of people they want. Hellofresh obtains the products from the producers, from potatoes and meat to spices and cheese, and packs the right boxes for the customers. The box will be delivered to your home along with detailed cooking instructions.
