Eisenach/Gotha (dpa/th) – The scent of roasted almonds and mulled wine is once again blowing through the inner cities of Thuringia: The one in Eisenach, which is probably the first Christmas market of this season, opens on Monday (11 a.m.). Mayor Katja Wolf (left) has announced that she will be attending the ritual. Then comes the Christmas market in Gotha (6:00 p.m.), which already shines in the glow of the evening lights when it opens.
On the following days, traders, confectioners and fairground rides open their booths and carousels decorated for Christmas in many other cities. The Christmas markets in Erfurt and Weimar will follow on Tuesday, followed by those in Saalfeld, Gera and Jena in the days that follow.
According to the city administration, Thuringia’s largest Christmas market in the state capital is expecting up to 1.5 million guests during the Advent season after a two-year Corona break.
