An individual of interest was taken into police custody following Friday’s shooting at Rosemont’s Fashion Outlets of Chicago mall. The shooting took place just after 7 p.m., Rosemont police said. However, they said that it was an isolated incident and possible a targeted attack.
Joel Valdes (20) was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
A 15 year-old girl was injured in her right wrist when she was shot. Sgt. Joe Balogh, Rosemont Public Safety Department said that the girl was stable.
A third victim of the shooting ran away or “escaped” according to Gary Mack, a Rosemont spokesperson. Chicago Tribune
Balogh stated that two attackers fled in a red vehicle, but authorities evacuated the area and searched it.
Luis Elijio claimed that he was shopping with his family, which included his 5-month-old daughter at the time, when a woman opened the doors of the store and shouted, “They’re shooting!” Elijio stated that an employee locked the doors, and the people inside fled to the back of their store.
