Two brothers charged in a series of sexual assaults between 2003 and 2012 were each sentenced to 147 years in prison Monday in a 2011 attack, according to prosecutors and court records.
Leondo Joseph, 40, and LB Joseph, 30, were found guilty in September of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated battery in a public place. Their conviction stemmed from an attack early Dec. 17, 2011, in the 2100 block of North Cicero Avenue, according to records. Cook County Judge Dennis Porter sentenced them in separate hearings Monday, according to prosecutors and court records.
Each brother represented himself in court, although public defenders represented each of them during sentencing, according to court records and prosecutors.
Only days after their conviction, the two were each charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping in a Dec. 5, 2011, attack on a 34-year-old woman on the West Side, prosecutors said.
In December 2013, DNA material from the Dec. 5, 2011, attack was entered into the Combined DNA Index System, and in September 2014 detectives discovered a match to six other sexual assault cases between 2003 and 2014, prosecutors said.
The brothers were arrested Sept. 25, 2014. An indictment was returned in the following days charging Leondo Joseph in a Aug. 6, 2003, attack; a Dec. 19, 2004, attack; and a May 23, 2010, attack.
Both brothers were charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault in an April 6, 2011, attack. Additionally, both were charged with armed robbery, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated criminal sexual assault in a Sept. 26, 2012, attack, prosecutors said.
Leondo Joseph has six other cases pending, while LB Joseph has two other cases pending, according to prosecutors and court records.
