A high school student has died and at least three other children have been injured during a shootout in a high school near Spokane, in the state of Washington, USA. The suspect has been detained, according to the local sheriff, quoted by the local newspaper the Spokesman-review. At noon, the circumstances of the event, the motives or the identity of the suspect were unknown.
The Institute is Freeman High School, in the town of Rockford, near Spokane, 480 miles east of Seattle, Washington. The three wounded were transferred to the local Sacred Heart hospital. At noon the hospital reported that they were in a stable situation.
Around 10.30 a.m. local (Pacific Time) a Twitter account that appears to be from a student published a message that saw students sitting on the floor of a classroom and said: “Right now at Freeman Elementary (the name of a school).” I’m a first-grader, evacuated from high school. “At least four shots.”
