Today, April 10, is Easter Monday 2023, the last day of Holy Week. However, this holiday is not celebrated throughout Spain.

The same thing happened on April 6, Holy Thursday, which is also not a holiday in all regions since the only national holiday of Holy Week is Good Friday.

Thus, today is a holiday in six autonomous communities: the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Navarra, the Basque Country, La Rioja and the Valencian Community.

For their part, there are several autonomous communities in which there is no school today as it is a holiday in the school calendar.

After Resurrection Sunday comes Easter Monday, which is the first day of the eighth Easter. In this way, a period of 50 days begins, known as Pascual Time, in which the death and resurrection of Christ and the time he later spent with the apostles are commemorated.

This Pascual Time ends with the celebration of Pentecost Sunday. Thus Easter varies in the calendar each year depending on Holy Week, which takes place on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring.

Traditionally in several autonomous communities after Easter Sunday, Easter Monday is celebrated with excursions in the countryside with family or friends. Thus, it is also very typical among children and adults to take Easter cakes. It is a sweet cake, decorated with anisettes, and which also incorporates a boiled egg with its painted shell.

After a few days of rest that many of us have been able to enjoy, the routine arrives and, with it, a question: when is the next public holiday in Spain?

Luckily we won’t have to wait long since in less than a month we will once again have a national holiday in the 2023 work calendar. This will arrive on Monday, May 1, Labor Day.
