Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – According to a survey commissioned by the AOK Baden-Württemberg, the consequences of the corona pandemic are still clearly felt by many families in the south-west today. In the survey of parents of children and young people between the ages of 3 and 17, almost 44 percent said they were rather severely or very severely affected by the pandemic. Complaints were mainly about mental health problems in children, lack of exercise, lack of social contacts and video games. On the other hand, almost 39 percent consider themselves only slightly affected. The “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” (Monday) was the first to report on the survey.

Every fourth family names listlessness as a mental impairment, followed by sadness at 21 percent. Around 15 percent of the families each report sleep problems, depressive phases and fears about the future. 49 percent of parents say their children do less sport than before the pandemic. According to the survey, two-thirds (67 percent) are worried because their children are spending more time on cell phones or playing video games.

The opinion research company Civey had interviewed 500 people on behalf of AOK Baden-Württemberg. The health insurance company advises parents not to wait too long before visiting a doctor or a counseling center. “For many people, the pandemic acts like an intensifier of problems that were already there,” said Jana Linsky, the division head responsible for medicine, the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten”.
