Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Around 4,000 of the temporary teachers in Baden-Württemberg will be unemployed over the summer holidays – although they will be needed again afterwards. According to the Ministry of Education, the amount required for the continued employment of the teachers is around 15 million euros. This emerges from a response from the ministry to a request from the SPD parliamentary group in the state parliament. First the Südwestrundfunk had reported.
With reference to the high costs, the Ministry had again rejected the continued employment of the teachers over the summer holidays. According to the ministry, the number of teachers affected has actually increased.
Minister Theresa Schopper (Greens) had previously restricted that certain teachers who had been working in schools for a long time would be accommodated when contracts were extended. In addition, 97 percent of the teachers are employees or civil servants.
In the case of the SPD, however, the approach of the Ministry of Education causes a lack of understanding. The educational policy spokesman for the state parliamentary group, Stefan Fulst-Blei, announced on Saturday that the state government had been ignoring emergency calls for more staff for years. “The state government provides 21 million euros for an advertising campaign like “The Länd”, but ending the unspeakable practice of dismissing teachers over the summer holidays is not even worth 15 million euros a year to the state government,” said Fulst-Blei.
