Oberkirch (dpa / lsw) – The CDU politician Gregor Bühler has been elected the new mayor of Oberkirch. The 39-year-old prevailed in the first ballot with almost 52 percent of the votes, as the city in the Ortenau district announced on Sunday evening.

Bühler has been the mayor of the municipality of Sasbach since 2018. The incumbent in Oberkirch, Matthias Braun (CDU), resigned after three terms. Bühler had three competitors in the election. Around 16,000 citizens were called to vote. Voter turnout was reported to be just under 53 percent.
