Albstadt/Tübingen (dpa/lsw) – One day after house searches were carried out on couriers who are said to have stolen goods from packages, several suspects were taken into custody. In more than 500 cases, they are said to have exchanged high-quality shipping items for inferior goods, the police said.
Five of 18 suspects were arrested on Wednesday. Arrest warrants were issued for seven deliverers. There was still no trace of two suspects on Thursday.
The men are said to have stolen expensive mobile phones, electronic items and high-quality clothing worth around 120,000 euros in the districts of Reutlingen, Tübingen and in the Zollernalb district. The suspects placed inferior goods of similar quality and weight in the packages. The packages were then resealed and delivered to the recipients. The transport company filed a complaint in November 2022.
During the apartment searches in Albstadt (Zollernalbkreis) and Tübingen, the investigators found suspected stolen goods such as electronic items and cash on Wednesday.
