Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – Two dogs defended a fallen and injured cyclist in Freiburg in such a way that helpers could only get to the temporarily unconscious woman after the police had called in. They also bit the dog of a woman to death who wanted to provide first aid to the 54-year-old. According to the police on Monday, one of the animals is an American Staffordshire Terrier classified as an attack dog. Although he was on a leash during the incident on Saturday in Freiburg, he was not wearing a muzzle.

Even rescue services and officials from the traffic police could not control the animals. They called the police dog squad “because the aggressive dogs meant they had no way of approaching the seriously injured cyclist who urgently needed help.” The professionals caught the dogs, restrained them and took them to the shelter. The injured woman was taken to a clinic.
