Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – After reports of defective protective vests, the German Police Union (DPolG) in Baden-Württemberg is calling for the situation to be rectified as soon as possible. “The provision of protective equipment that fully meets the requirements in the so-called protection class must have the highest priority,” emphasized union boss Ralf Kusterer on Thursday when asked. Even if the risk is described as relatively low by the ministry, this deficiency cannot be accepted under any circumstances. “We expect that the state police headquarters will work on possible solutions as a matter of priority and at high pressure.”
According to reports in the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” and “Stuttgarter Zeitung”, most of the state police’s ballistic protective vests are defective. With around 17,000 so-called underbody protection vests with the designation BA 466, there is a risk of a shot being put through the vest, the newspapers reported, citing an information letter from the state police headquarters. Shots from a distance, on the other hand, would have withstood the test fire.
