Neuffen (dpa/lsw) – In order to save drinking water, the people in Neuffen (Esslingen district) are no longer allowed to use their tap water for their gardens and pools for the time being. The city and the volunteer fire brigade announced on Monday that it was now forbidden to fill paddling pools with water, wash cars or hose down terraces. The step is necessary in order to be able to continue to supply the people in the region with drinking water. Therefore, it is also necessary to refrain from irrigating urban lawns and sports fields with tap water.
The people of Neuffen are also no longer allowed to take water from lakes, streams and rivers. Since Friday, the district of Esslingen has banned using it there – even if it’s just with buckets or watering cans. The only exceptions are farms with special permits and fire brigades in the event of a fire.
Small bodies of water have already dried up, the district office justified the decision. Fish and plants suffered from the low water levels, low oxygen levels and rising water temperatures. The ban applies until the end of August.
