Fellbach (dpa/lsw) – In the stalemate around the construction of a huge residential tower, the city of Fellbach is relying on the promises made to the municipality, despite the considerable turbulence at the Adler real estate group. Mayor Gabriele Zull (independent) said on Monday in Fellbach that she continues to rely on the information provided by the ailing project developer, who still wants to complete the shell of the 107-meter-high residential tower. “Taking over the tower and having it built cannot be the task of the city of Fellbach,” she emphasized. In these tense times, this is “certainly not a mandatory task”. The municipality can only keep talking and exert pressure. The Adler Group has been making headlines for months due to allegedly bloated balance sheets.
The shell of the so-called Schwabenlandtower in Fellbach has been under construction for six years. Shortly after the topping-out ceremony in September 2016, the original client had to file for bankruptcy. Two years later, the former CG Group took over the project and gave the building a new concept. After years of standstill, the project developer, which has meanwhile been taken over in several steps, began to convert the planned 64 luxury apartments into smaller, cheaper rental apartments under the name Consus Real Estate. The company owned by the Adler Group had recently repeatedly promised in talks with the city leaders that the construction work would be completed.
According to the building mayor, Beatrice Soltys, the complex adjustment measures inside the building have been going on for months. For static reasons, however, work can only be carried out on two floors at a time, she said. The new concept with a total of 194 apartments corresponds more closely to what the city of Fellbach needs. However, she did not want to commit to a date for completion.
