Accra (dpa / lsw) – Ghana’s national coach Otto Addo has appointed the recently injured Daniel-Kofi Kyereh from SC Freiburg as the only Bundesliga professional in his country’s World Cup squad. The 26-year-old midfielder is one of the 26 players announced by former Bundesliga professional Addo in Accra on Monday. Kyereh was recently absent from Freiburg due to an infection and muscular problems.

Also in Qatar is Reading FC defender Abdul-Rahman Baba, who used to play for FC Augsburg and Schalke 04. On the other hand, Christopher Antwi-Adjei from VfL Bochum and Kwasi Wriedt from Holstein Kiel did not make it into the squad.

The Black Stars are led by top player Thomas Partey from English leaders FC Arsenal and young star Mohammed Kudus from Ajax Amsterdam. “We have a good squad,” said Addo, who works at Borussia Dortmund as an extra coach for the club’s top talent. Ghana’s goal, which failed in the preliminary round at the last World Cup participation in 2014, is this time to reach the round of 16. In Group H, the team meets Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.

Ghana will play a final friendly against Switzerland on Thursday. “It’s important that we grow together as a team and that the players get to know my ideas,” said Addo.
