Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The new climate protection law of the green-black coalition is sealed after lengthy negotiations. After the CDU parliamentary group voted yes, the Green MPs also voted unanimously for the compromise that had been negotiated shortly beforehand, a spokesman for the Green parliamentary group told the German Press Agency on Thursday. According to reports, the Greens are pushing through a so-called climate reservation, according to which new funding programs are to be checked to see whether they are harmful to the climate.

From 2040 onwards, there should only be “climate-friendly funding programs”. This means, for example, that reconstruction measures in schools will only be financially supported by the state if they do not harm the climate. A new oil heating system would therefore no longer be eligible.

With the amendment, Baden-Württemberg intends to be the first federal state to enshrine in law specific targets for reducing greenhouse gases, for example in agriculture or transport. The Greens and the CDU had been stuck for weeks on certain measures in the planned law. The bill still has to be passed by the state parliament.
