Mannheim (dpa / lsw) – Handball Bundesliga club Rhein-Neckar Löwen has to do without goalkeeper Mikael Appelgren indefinitely. The Swede sustained a hand injury in the 32:31 win against TSV Hannover-Burgdorf last Sunday. A tear in the skin between the thumb and forefinger had already been sewn, the club announced on Monday.
According to an initial medical assessment, the 33-year-old will miss at least the next three Löwen games and won’t be an option again until the home game against TBV Lemgo Lippe on November 13 at the earliest. Appelgren had recently been out due to a shoulder injury and had just made his comeback against Hannover.
