Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Heitersheim in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district can officially call itself “Maltese town” from October 1st. Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) announced on Monday in Stuttgart that the city had been the seat of the Grand Priory of the Order of St. John and later of the Order of Malta for centuries until it was dissolved in 1806.
According to the information, 19 cities and municipalities in the country are allowed to adorn themselves with additional designations. Eberbach (Rhein-Neckar district) is now “Stauferstadt”, Ettenheim (Ortenau district) “Baroque city” and Jagsthausen (Heimat district Heilbronn) the “homeland of Götz von Berlichingen”.
