Sandhausen (dpa / lsw) – The sports director Mikayil Kabaca from the second division soccer team SV Sandhausen would like to have more trust in classic center forwards. “Big teams have real nines who are looking for the direct route to the goal and are able to decide games,” said the 46-year-old of the German Press Agency. The past has shown that goalscorers like Robert Lewandowski and Edin Dzeko can make the difference. That’s why Kabaca can imagine Niclas Füllkrug in the top striker from the start before the last group game of the German national team at the World Cup in Qatar.
He believes the DFB-Elf can reach the round of 16 and win against Costa Rica on Thursday (8 p.m. / ARD and Magenta TV). “Germany didn’t fall away against Spain. The German team even had a chance to win. The players have shown that they can keep up against top opponents. That’s why I have a lot of confidence in Germany.” The substitute filling jug saved the German team a 1-1 draw against Spain.
Kabaca is impressed by the level of the games in Qatar. “It’s very high,” said the sporting director of the SVS. “With the exception of the Spaniards’ thrashing of Costa Rica, no team has had a chance so far. The world’s best have moved closer together and there will also be favorites who fall by the wayside.”
