Grafenhausen (dpa / lsw) – According to Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens), the state-owned Rothaus brewery should be a role model for the entire industry when it comes to climate protection. “It is important that a state brewery in particular shows that it is the right way ecologically and economically,” said Kretschmann on Monday in Grafenhausen (Waldshut district) at the opening of a photovoltaic system in the brewery. The goal is an economic model that can be “copied,” said the head of government.
The brewery in the Black Forest says it wants to produce “climate-positive” by 2030. More climate-damaging CO2 is then compensated for than is caused – this overcompensation has a positive effect on the climate. Chairman of the Supervisory Board and Minister of Agriculture Peter Hauk (CDU) said that six to eight wind turbines should be built in the area, one or two of which could be reserved for the state brewery.
According to earlier information from the association, the brewing industry has high energy requirements and is therefore particularly affected by the rise in energy prices.
Rothaus is planning investments of around 40 million euros in the coming years, which will be financed from the brewery’s own resources. The money flows, among other things, for the photovoltaic system with an area of ??9000 square meters. “If we reduce energy consumption, we save money – there is also a piece of Swabian housewife in the Baden master brewer,” said Kretschmann.
The Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus AG, founded in 1791, is located at an altitude of around 1000 meters in the Upper Black Forest and, according to its own statements, is Germany’s highest brewery. Around 240 people are employed.
