Ulm/Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – A few days after a murder charge was brought, the suspect killed himself in the Ulm prison, according to the public prosecutor. The body of the 48-year-old was found in his solitary cell last Monday, the authority in Stuttgart said. “The autopsy and the previous police investigations confirm a suicide of the prisoner who was not previously classified as suicidal,” it said on Friday. The man was not aware of the indictment at the time of his death.
He was suspected of murdering a 79-year-old relative in her home in Waiblingen on Good Friday in mid-April. In mid-May, he was arrested after a chase and an accident at a rest area near Gruibingen (Göppingen district). After his death, the public prosecutor’s office in Ulm initiated a death investigation.
