Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – People in the south-west inherited or gave away significantly more assets in 2021 than in the previous year. The value of taxable inheritances and gifts rose by almost a third compared to 2020 to 12.0 billion euros, as reported by the State Statistical Office in Stuttgart on Tuesday. A total of 31,500 asset transfers were recorded, around 13 percent more than in the previous year.
Taxes had to be paid on around 8.5 billion euros. The amount results from the total value minus allowances or other deductions. That was the highest level in 15 years, according to statisticians. At 1.6 billion euros, the value of the assessed tax was more than 40 percent higher than in the previous year.
Almost half of the taxable inheritances or gifts involved amounts of less than 50,000 euros. At three percent, they only had a minimal share of the total value of the assets transferred. More than two-thirds of the total value, on the other hand, came from amounts over 500,000 euros. These accounted for around nine percent of the recorded asset transfers.
