The state government wants to speed up the expansion of wind power in the southwest – and therefore also allow plants on Lake Constance. Criticism is stirring locally. A discussion evening should help.
Öhningen (dpa / lsw) – According to the will of the state government, wind turbines should also generate electricity on Lake Constance in the future. The tender for possible investors was completed at the end of March, announced the Ministry of the Environment in Stuttgart. The results are not yet available. The Ministry of Forestry had previously identified 32 hectares of state forest in the area of ??the municipality of Öhningen (district of Konstanz) on the Höri peninsula near Radolfzell as possible locations for wind turbines.
According to the Baden-Württemberg State Institute for the Environment, these would be the first wind turbines in the immediate vicinity of Lake Constance. The mood on the construction of wind turbines on Schiener Berg has so far been “different,” said the Ministry of the Environment. “There are both positive and negative voices.”
The mayor of the municipality of Öhningen, Andreas Schmid, said that he could not yet “estimate how this would affect visitors and tourism”. Of course, the intervention in the landscape is the main argument against the systems. “More important, however, is the opinion of the citizens, who have to live with the systems 365 days a year,” said Schmid. “Here it is important to weigh up what has more weight – the landscape or the generation of regenerative energy.”
In the district of Konstanz there are only a few locations that are similar in terms of wind or more suitable for the construction of the systems, said Schmid. “For this reason, it must be checked whether economically renewable electricity can be generated at these locations.”
Members of the state parliament Nese Erikli and Secretary of State for the Environment Andre Baumann (both Green) want to talk to citizens on Friday evening about the status of the plans. The discussion should also be about how the expansion of wind power on the Höri can work.
