The center of Stuttgart around the train station is a huge construction site. The listed Bonatz building is also being extensively renovated.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – 100 years of Stuttgart main station: A first part of today’s terminal station was put into operation on October 23, 1922. The listed Bonatz building is currently like a construction site and is being made fit for the future so that it can be used again in 2025 with the planned inauguration of the underground through station, as announced by Deutsche Bahn.

In the course of the renovation, the historic reception building will receive a stabilizing structure and two new levels. The tower, terminal platform hall, middle staircase and small and large ticket hall remain in place. On today’s side of the tracks, the future Straßburger Platz, a new facade is being built, which will be adapted to the historic building. The exterior of the listed building is preserved. In 2025, the currently dismantled Mercedes star from the station tower will turn again.

In the course of the multi-billion dollar Stuttgart 21 railway project, the side wings of the historic building were demolished. But not only the old main station of the state capital is being rebuilt. Rather, it is about the complete reorganization of the railway junction – with the construction of new stations, railways, tunnels and bridges.
