More and more people are exploring whether they can also experience social assistance with the given housing costs. There has been enormous growth, especially in the case of top-ups.
Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – The job centers in Saxony-Anhalt are receiving more and more inquiries in connection with the increased energy costs. A spokesman for the regional directorate for Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia said that people contacted the authority in particular because of a possible heating cost subsidy, stocking up on heating material or other questions about the increased advance payments. He did not give exact figures for the increased inquiries.
It is by no means the case that unemployment is a basic prerequisite for receiving benefits under the Second Social Code, the spokesman clarified. With these benefits, the need for assistance of the applicant is decisive. Employed people are often called “top-ups” if their wages are not enough to cover their living expenses and they therefore receive additional unemployment benefit II.
The spokesman explained that the many inquiries concern both existing customers and previous non-service recipients. Proof of income, assets and accruing accommodation costs for the entire benefit community are required for applications for benefits.
